For over two decades, I have built and refined an instrument I call the Sound Illuminator, a mechanical apparatus of my own design that channels specific acoustic frequencies through a shallow pool of water held in direct sunlight. As sound passes through the water, it disturbs the surface; sunlight, striking that disturbance, refracts into geometries that exist for only a fraction of a second. I photograph these geometries at the instant they form.

The work begins from a simple impulse: to better know my place in the universe. Unable to travel the cosmos, I built a machine to bring elemental transactions into view, to force sound, light, and matter into a single frame. What started as a metaphysical question became a mechanical practice. The photographs that result are not composites or digital constructions. They are records of physical events, each one an irreproducible collision between vibration, illumination, and the medium of water.

Each image is titled with the precise frequency, timestamp, and geographic coordinates of its making. The titling is not ornament; it insists on the photograph as document-evidence of a singular occurrence rather than an arrangement of forms. I am staging common phenomena, and I am capturing tiny cataclysms that will never repeat. Both are true at once.

What interests me is the order that emerges from turbulence. Sound waves marching toward oblivion. Sunlight bouncing on water. Inside these pedestrian events lies a structure too complex to perceive in its entirety, a minute history in which no instance is petty. The camera holds it still long enough to be examined.

My installation work extends this investigation into space. Viewers stand inside environments of active sound and light, where the boundary between observer and event begins to dissolve and perception itself becomes part of the work.
