FAQ for Artists

Who can participate? The Tour is open to artists living and working in Taos County. Eligibility requirements are outlined in the annual application (listed in the menu) and include studio location, readiness for public visits, and a professional website.

How do artists apply? Artists apply through an open application process announced each year. See above registration link to apply and the entry fee.

Deadline for applications is: April 30, 2026.

Is there an application or participation fee? An application fee of $175. Fees help cover shared costs such as: website, marketing & publicity, printing of maps and signs.

Do artists need a dedicated studio space? Participating artists need to have a suitable space for public visits during Tour hours. Studios should be safe, clearly identified, and welcoming to visitors. Businesses in downtown Taos may also be open to hosting artists.

Are shared or group studios allowed? Shared or group studios may participate, provided they meet Tour guidelines and can safely accommodate visitors.*

What are artists responsible for during the Tour?

Artists are responsible for:

  • Staffing their studio during open hours

  • Installing and presenting their work

  • Managing sales, independently paying their GRT

  • Tracking sales and attendance

  • Providing a safe, respectful environment for visitors

What support does the Studio Tour provide?

The Studio Tour provides:

  • A personal listing on Taos Studio Tour website

  • Coordinated marketing and promotion

  • Inclusion in printed and online maps

  • Participation in the preview exhibition 

Can Artist Sell their work during the tour? Absolutely! Artists are encouraged to sell work directly from their studios and retain 100% of their sales.

Who organizes the Taos Studio Tour? The Tour is organized by the Taos Studio Tour Steering Committee and is currently supported by Taos MainStreet, which has served as fiscal agent since spring 2025.

How long has the Taos Studio Tour been happening? The Tour began in 2008. The 19th annual Taos Studio Tour will take place over Labor Day Weekend 2026.

Why participate? Artists participate to gain visibility, connect directly with audiences, build community, and take part in a long-standing, artist-led Taos tradition.
