Sarah Bush
Mixed Media & Fiber
As an artist, I’m obsessed with making work that speaks to the mystery of being alive.
I lament that since the Enlightenment, art in Western culture has lost the two most important jobs it held for thousands of years—being a means to connect to the divine or a way to make magic. So I strive to create art objects that connect the viewer to what I perceive as primal and universal in the human experience, even if it’s through the lens of my particular perspective.
I am also deeply interested in exploring the tension between timelessness and impermanence, fragility and resilience, and the physical body and the spiritual self. I find this tension extremely poignant and I like to explore these themes by developing different bodies of work using a variety of media.
I’m also a writer and I have a weekly newsletter on Substack called The Pink Teacup. I write about art & spirit, what it means to be fully expressed, and how our imaginations can help save the world.
