CAT creates acrylic paintings that use anthropomorphic characters, satire, and social commentary to examine identity, power, and contradiction within contemporary culture. Drawing from the visual language of cartoons, lowbrow art, and Northern New Mexico life, CAT’s work blends humor with discomfort, using exaggerated figures and narrative scenes to explore themes of identity, performance, status, social systems.
Influenced by artists such as, Richard Scarry, and contemporary animated storytelling like BoJack Horseman, the paintings balance playful imagery with underlying tension. Characters often appear theatrical, symbolic, or emotionally exposed, reflecting the absurdity of modern life while challenging romanticized or simplified views of culture, community, and identity.
Working from Taos, New Mexico, CAT creates pieces that function as both visual storytelling and cultural observation. The work invites viewers to laugh, question, and look closer at the systems, behaviors, and identities that shape everyday experience.
