Claire Detels is an award-winning fiber artist in crochet and felting, with best-in-show, 1st and second prizes in the NW Arkansas Ozark Gallery competitions; and she also draws and paints. Since moving to Taos in 2014 she has shown her work at the Taos Visitor Center, the Amman Gallery, Española Valley Fiber Arts Center, Lyle’s Creations, the Sanctuary Artistry Gallery, and the annual TaosFolk fair, among other venues.

In her fiber arts work—crocheted and felted—Claire likes to work free-form, mixing varied yarns and fibers freely without patterns, stitch counting or weighing wool. As a result her wearables are one-of-a-kinds, so you’ll never see their match at at a party or in public. In paintings and drawing Claire likes to travel and work from real life, enjoying and blurring the boundaries between representation and abstraction.
